It’s been said that to write a
good love letter you must begin not knowing what you are going to write and
finish not knowing what you have written. The truth of this is that real love
isn’t what we speak, it’s the feelings and passion that backs the words with sincerity and conviction.
One of the greatest miracles is
when it rains in the desert and yes it does rain out there, suddenly there is a
carpet in a profusion of colour. It is in the silence that pervades the desert
that lulls the senses into a state of stillness. For most of the year,
sometimes even for years, there is a dry heat and yet creatures live out there
live under these conditions. Even traditional nomadic cultures live in harmony
with such inhospitable conditions.
Modern culture is creating
deserts that many are spending their lives in, removed from the emotional
connection and support of others, even when living in a close relationship. The
demands on time of work, family, social and community commitments leaves little
room for any real emotional connection. Tragically many now live lives through
others experiences in the media. It is well noted throughout history that a
sign of decay in a society or civilisation is when the masses need more and
more distractions from the real issues and the lawmakers create more
constraints to control the masses.
That would appear to be the case
when looking at societies around the globe. Often relationships do not survive
long enough to mature and grow. In fact it usually is at the early signs of
difficulty and hardship that partners fail to understand what is happening
emotionally for the other and for what ever reason starts to dissociate and
eventually leave the relationship altogether.
I’ve been guilty of this through
the course of my life. Needless to say it has also been the painful lesson
when, seemingly without warning, you find yourself alone.
It’s only when there are common
goals that we can passionately pursue together that there is common ground to
meet on and build from into stronger understanding.
It doesn't take much each day to
maintain the connection. Even a gentle shoulder massage, complimentary words
and considerate acts add fuel to emotional fires
Often when sitting opposite each
other we will see facets of our partners that go largely unnoticed.
My partner has the most amazing
eyes which when she is gazing into the distance soften and appear to become a
soft hazel-grey. Her face softens as the tension of concentration leaves her
mind. It is as relaxing for me to sit and watch her state changing as it is for
her to sit and contemplate the universe. Which she often does.. It’s like the
hidden inner beauty is allowed to surface and her true persona and spirit are
revealed.
She
speaks her truth so quietly that often I overlook it and it’s only in
reflection that I became aware of it.
