A Better Past

Yesterday I was speaking with a fellow author about families and the importance of the preservation of family history. Not only for the sense of self identity, but also for self esteem and that all important sense of belonging.

Family provides a very important set of dynamics and values that set the framework of how we relate to the world in later life. It seems that in mine there has been closeness then distance and now closeness again.

Family can be the ultimate team. Most noticeable as the older generations pass away and we are left with those 'if only' questions. The questions we didn't know when our parents were alive. The surprising revelations as two sisters and two brother sit around the meal table and reflect back on more than sixty years of life each.

This pooling of knowledge leads to the desire to create a record of the history that succeeding generations can build on.

Through the power of computers, the Internet and permanent blogs like this one these records can be created and preserved.

There will be moments when the very thought of someone who has died will bring on powerful emotions we may not have even connected with them before. It's all a part of life. Being human. Loving, laughing, crying, feeling emotions both tender and powerful.

It's been said we are spiritual beings having a physical experience, to which I like to add a huge part of that human experience is how we feel about it and those who have made the journey significant.

Live well and learn from the past at the same time enjoying life and collecting experiences you can pass on and of course share.

Shared memories are the magic in long term relationships.

It's also a great way of staying young.

Live long and prosper,

Kim
